Silver Lake Institute

Local Point of Interest, Historic Site

The Silver Lake Institute, a Methodist affiliated camp facility established in 1873, is located within the 15 acre Silver Lake Institute Historic District in Wyoming county.

Originally established as a Methodist Revivalist summer camp in the 1870s and 1880s, SLI evolved into a cultural, educational, and religious summer institute in the Chautauqua tradition during the 1880s and 1890s. Now, the instutute serves primarily as a secular summer cottage community but maintains its links to the Chataqua tradition by hosting numerous arts and cultural activities during the summer months.

The Silver Lake Experience, held every other year on the grounds of the Institute is a 4-day event offering a variety of educational, recreational and artistic experiences for attendees.
